I must admit that I have not used Twitter much. I am in the presence stage of twiter acceptance. I have an account, I'm checking it out, but so far have not really fallen for it. I was this way with facebook too and now I'm a facebook fan so we'll see.
First I read a number of the articles about Twitter and who uses it for what. I found some interesting people to follow: Yoko Ono, the filmmaker Kevin Smith, the author Chuck Palahniuk and a few others. I already can see the different ways these folks use it. Chuck posts about his upcoming book tour, how to buy an autographed copy of his new book and things like that. Kevin is twitter-happy and posts about anything and everything. Yoko posts inspirational thoughts about world peace and such. I was surprised to check my email and get a message that "Yoko Ono is following you on Twitter." I am sure it is some sort of automated thing as I doubt she is really very interested in my tweets!
The funnest thing I did was to learn to post to Twitter by talking on the phone! I followed all the instructions on setting up a twitterfeed, called the number, left a message and the message did in fact post on my twitter account. COOL!
